Condolence Meal
The first meal eaten by the mourners after the burial is called a "condolence meal." It is customary for this meal to consist of round foods, such as eggs, lentils, and bagels, symbolizing the cycle of suffering in the world and the beginning of acceptance by the mourners of cyclical nature of life and death. The condolence meal is customarily composed of food brought by friends and neighbors to aid in the process of emotional acceptance already at this early stage.
