Recommendation - Public Notice

Public Notice

After setting the place and time, you must notify the friends and relatives of the deceased and of the mourners. It is important to realize that Hevra Kadisha sometimes works on a tight schedule, and must therefor adhere to the agreed timetable. It is recommended to announce to the public a slightly earlier time than the time agreed with Hevra Kadisha.

It is not necessary for the mourners themselves to stand next to the telephone for hours on end in order to notify people; they should get help from their friends. One responsible person in the circle of acquaintances (place of work, neighbors, family from each side) should be notified and given the task of passing on the notification. If necessary, organized transportation should be ordered for bringing the people attending the funeral to the cemetery.

Note: It is recommended to ask a friend or one of the neighbors who is not attending the funeral to remain in the mourners' home to guard it. Unfortunately, there are many cases in which thieves take advantage of the family's grief and absence from home to break in to the mourners' houses during the funeral or shiva. Be forewarned
